THE HIDDEN YEARS RELEASE THE GOSPELThe Wilderness Voice
The reconstruction ends at the river. Luke now dates the public world, gives the wilderness its voice, and brings Jesus into the water.
THE CANONICAL STORY RESUMES
“...the word of God came unto John the son of Zacharias in the wilderness.”Luke 3 proceeds through John’s proclamation, the baptism of Jesus, prayer, and the statement that Jesus was about thirty.
The Magi stop here. Their imagined formation can no longer substitute for the public life. From this point, Jesus must be judged by the words, deeds, conflicts, mercy, and fruit preserved in the Gospel witness.
